Happy Thursday!!
I have a very special guest for you all today; Angela Marsons, author of the soon to be published Silent Scream. I'm reading this right now and I can't wait to post the review for you, and i'm even more excited about YOU getting a copy and letting me know what you think of it too!
Set in the Black Country, this is the DEBUT D.I. Kim Stone Novel, and even half way through... I want to know what D.I. Kim Stone's next investigation will be! Before I give it all away... i'm going to hand over to the Author herself, Angela to tell you a little bit more about Silent Scream.
***
Silent
Scream is the first book I've written based in my own area of the Black
Country. Stories written prior to this
had been focused on areas I thought a reader would find more appealing or
glamorous.
After all,
the Charles Dickens's novel, The Old Curiosity Shop, describes the factory
chimneys that "poured out their
plague of smoke, obscured the light and made foul the melancholy air".
And It is
widely felt that J.R.R. Tolkien based the grim region of Mordor on The Black
Country.
However, my
favourite anecdote is that when traveling through the area Queen Victoria would
gently lower her carriage blind.
So, why
would I chose to base Silent Scream in such a place?
When I
started Silent Scream I wrote it just for me, without any real intention of it
meeting the outside world. This gave me
the freedom to set the book wherever I wanted to and found that my own area
suited the main character very well.
I quickly
learned that the area is not named for the thick black smoke that poured from
industrial chimneys but for the outcropping coal seam that turned the soil
black.
By the
1620's there were 20,000 'smiths' within a 10 mile radius of Dudley
Castle. Many of which were individual
smallholdings used by families to supplement their income.
The area
has a rich heritage in manufacturing chains and anchors. The main anchor for the Titanic was forged in
Netherton and was pulled through the streets to Dudley Port by 20 shire horses.
As I
researched the history of The Black Country I found myself wanting to explore
the difficulties faced by the area since the decline of the steelworks and coal
mines, but keep a sense of its dark and industrial past.
It is now,
more than ever, a place I am proud to call my home.
Two of the most searched for topics has to be The Royal Couple: Kate & William, and Diets. At this point in time, we're a world obsessed with Prince George's soon to be baby brother or baby sister, and we're obsessed with losing weight.
So what better way to embrace these obsessions and combine them with another obsession... books than to share with you on FRIDAY FAVES this week, two fabulous books that will be available to buy April/May time.
We start with:

"If I'm Cinderella today, I dread who they'll think I am tomorrow. I guess it depends on what I do next."
American Rebecca Porter was never one for fairy-tales. Her twin sister Lacey was always the romantic, the one who daydreamed of being a princess. But it's adventure-seeking Bex who goes to Oxford and meets dreamy Nick across the hall - and thus Bex who accidentally finds herself in love with the eventual heir to the British throne. Nick is everything she could have imagined, but Prince Nicholas has unimaginable baggage: grasping friends, a thorny family, hysterical tabloids tracking his every move, and a public that expected its future king to marry a native. On the eve of the most talked-about wedding of the century, Bex reflects on what she's sacrificed for love -- and exactly whose heart she may yet have to break."
This book sounds absolutely brilliant! I can't wait to start reading this and letting you know what you can expect!

Book Description:
The diet revolution is here. And it’s armed.
Plum Kettle does her best not to be noticed, because when you’re fat, to be noticed is to be judged. Or mocked. Or worse. With her job answering fan mail for a popular teen girls’ magazine, she is biding her time until her weight-loss surgery. Only then can her true life as a thin person finally begin.
Then, when a mysterious woman starts following her, Plum finds herself falling down a rabbit hole and into an underground community of women who live life on their own terms. There Plum agrees to a series of challenges that force her to deal with her past, her doubts, and the real costs of becoming “beautiful.” At the same time, a dangerous guerrilla group called “Jennifer” begins to terrorize a world that mistreats women, and as Plum grapples with her personal struggles, she becomes entangled in a sinister plot. The consequences are explosive.
Dietland is a bold, original, and funny debut novel that takes on the beauty industry, gender inequality, and our weight loss obsession—from the inside out, and with fists flying.

Book Description:
The heartbreaking novel from the author of CHOOSE ME, about the sacrifices parents must make and the anguish that can befall them.
When Monica is offered a three-month placement in LA, she knows that for the sake of her career she must accept it - even though it means leaving behind nine-year-old Ruby, toddler Luca and her husband Daniel.
She hires Ursula as a housekeeper and nanny during her absence, although the older woman is oddly reluctant to agree to a childcare position. What is the dark secret in Ursula's past, which has left her so closed-off and reserved? Will her growing attachment to Ruby bring it to the surface? And will Monica regret leaving the children in her care?
Dawn's Thoughts:
When I first picked this book up, I initially only meant to simply flick through it to get a gist of chapter lengths, text size and to smell that wonderful scent of a freshly printed paperback. However, two days later and I was wiping tears from my eyes, with my heart just breaking un-apologetically for Ursula.
This book is superbly written and I have read no other book in it's league. Sure I've read heart breaking novels, tearjerkers, and soul smiling titles that have longed stayed with me after putting them back on the shelf, but what Kay has created here is simply a psychological masterpiece.
The entire story had me unaware of what was hiding so darkly, deeply and painfully in Ursula's past, but when the truth came out, as it so often does in life, my heart shattered into a million pieces for her, sitting here writing this review, it is choking me up in the pit of my stomach as I recall the emotions I felt as I read the intricate details of not only what occurred but the emotions experienced by Ursula and the other characters. I simply cannot comprehend what was going through Ursula's mind and heart as her life unfolded, but Kay has carefully divulged and weaved together the closest humanely possible for us to ever experience what that must be like without ever experiencing it ourselves.
I usually divulge certain aspects of the novel with you my readers, but this time I simply cannot, because Away from You, is not a novel that enables me to do that. I can only encourage you to pick up the book, sit down, and allow yourself to experience it, I say experience it because you simply cannot just 'read' this. it is not just a book with woven pages printed with words and a 'story'. It is so much more than that, so much more than words can ever possibly begin to describe, and I urge you, to experience it in its fullness and allow yourself to become immersed and emotional with it. Please, 'read' this and then pass it along, because it is highly worthy of such an act of love.
Like a memory of a lost loved one, this book will stay with me forever. Without a doubt, Ursula's story will be a part of me until the day I am no more than a memory to someone, a face on a photograph, and a name written on a family tree.

Summer at Shell Cottage will be published 4th June 2015
Book Description:
The Tarrant family have been holidaying in a large seaside house in Devon every summer for years. Though children, Freya and Robert, are grown up now, and have families of their own, the tradition has continued. But this year things are heartbreakingly changed: patriarch Alec has died suddenly after forty happy years of marriage to Olivia. Now retired and widowed, Olivia is persuaded that going back to Devon is just the distraction she needs. It will also give her the peace and quiet to work through a confusing clause in Alec's will: he's left a sum of money to a mysterious Leo Browne, someone she's never heard of before...
Freya also needs to get away from it all. She's struggling with her work, her marriage and the loss of her beloved dad and it doesn't help that her husband is so distant. Her brother Robert seems to have a better handle on things, with a new family and exciting career to boast of. But the truth is far from rosy.
Over one last summer at Shell Cottage, the Tarrants may just find that family life is rarely postcard-perfect, but are they strong enough to weather the storms?

Available from: 20th February 2015 in KINDLE FORMAT
PRE-ORDER NOW for only £0.99
In the first Book Preview/News for the Crime Fiction Genre, we have a Black Country based crime novel from Angela Marsons, who is a Black Country lady herself.
There is a BIG buzz on social media about this book and I think there is every right to be. The cover alone is very much one that draws you toward it with intrigue, and I think it would be perfect for any BROADCHURCH fan, or SUSPECTS fans alike!
So let's see what we can look forward to;
BOOK DESCRIPTION
Five figures gather round a shallow grave. They had all taken turns to dig. An adult sized hole would have taken longer. An innocent life had been taken but the pact had been made. Their secrets would be buried, bound in blood …
Years later, a headmistress is found brutally strangled, the first in a spate of gruesome murders which shock the Black Country.
But when human remains are discovered at a former children’s home, disturbing secrets are also unearthed. D.I. Kim Stone fast realises she’s on the hunt for a twisted individual whose killing spree spans decades.
As the body count rises, Kim needs to stop the murderer before they strike again. But to catch the killer, can Kim confront the demons of her own past before it’s too late?
Fans of Rachel Abbott, Val McDermid and Mark Billingham will be gripped by this exceptional new voice in British crime fiction.
Well it sounds thrilling doesn't it? I have to say that on my initial 'quick flick' of my Reviewers Copy, Angela has really embraced the Black Country in this novel and the location mentions are ones that anyone who has ever lived in the area, worked there (like my Father did in the Police Force), will instantly recognize.
Don't leave town as Angela will be right back here on A Page of Love in an EXCLUSIVE Interview that will leave no stone unturned, and we'll be able to gather up the evidence and send it to forensics so that we can read and review our very own copy!
Hi everyone,
I hope you're all having a fabulous start to 2015!
Do you remember when I posted about my 1st Blogiversary? And I mentioned that in the coming year I fully intended on expanding A Page of Love?
Well, it seems that The Universe (God Bless it) has decided to help me with this. I have been approached by publicists from a couple of publishing houses to consider doing something right out of my genre comfort zone ~ Review Crime Fiction!
So, I really toyed with the idea because if i'm honest, i'm not really a fan of reading crime fiction, saying that though, i haven't really tried, so I guess how would I know if I didn't try? I have always been a chick-lit and women's fiction and romance kinda gal, which is one of the leading reasons my blog is called A Page of Love. I never really entertained the idea of reading crime fiction because having a father who was a Police Officer, Dog Handler and Plan Drawer for the Murder Squad in the Met, it kind of wasn't something I wanted to do. Having heard the god awful recounts of some of Dad's work in High Profile cases, I wanted something light hearted and fun.
But, I have decided to give the Crime Fiction a go. I have around 4 books lined up up until around April/May 2015 so lots to tempt you with. If they aren't your cup of tea then please, don't avoid visiting my blog, because I will always be a chick lit, women's fiction and romance girl at heart and they will be coming thick, fast and furious this year. I can't tell you how many exciting things I have lined up already to the middle of the year with chick lit and romance, so be sure to stick around.
So, fans of Broadchurch, Suspects, CSI Miami ( I love Heratio), NCIS (Gibbs!! That it all!) I have lots of exciting sneak peeks, Author Involvement, Reviews, News and much more coming your way soon!
Just out of interest, if you can leave a message below (just short and sweet) and let me know how you feel about;
A Page of Love is for Chick Lit, Crochet, & Crime Fiction!!
Much Love
