Christmas has come to Cedarwood Lodge in the second part of the feel-good romance serial from best selling author, Rebecca Raisin!
Dreaming of a happily ever after at Cedarwood Lodge is Clio Winters’ current focus, especially with a winter wonderland wedding expo planned. But with brides coming from far and wide the heat is on for Clio to fulfil everyone’s dream of a Christmas wedding!
It seems like Clio’s new business might be off to a rocky start and surrounded by love struck brides she can’t help but hope for a little Christmas romance of her own…
Cedarwood Lodge is a delectable romance told in three parts – following Clio Winters journey back to her hometown of Evergreen. This is Part Two.
What Dawn-Tracy Thinks
I adore Cedarwood Lodge and the town of Evergreen, so to return there was a pure treat especially as the lodge prepares for its first Christmas in quite a few years. The last time we caught up with Clio and her friends, they'd finally successfully restored the lodge to its former glory - with a few minor hiccups, and Amory, Clio's friend from Manhattan had arrived just as Clio and... Well I don't want to spoil it for you if you've not read it just yet. <Looks at you accusatory; "why haven't you read it yet?">
Now we're back and there is a bride expo to plan for. There's the vendor's to confirm which Amory is helping with, the food to organise - but we have Georges to deal with that, everyone is helping. It's going to be fine. Or is it?
Amory suddenly turned up, but why? And what's going on with her and Cruz? Things are quiet since Kai left and Clio kind of misses him, but refuses to allow herself to miss him or ponder on why that might be.
Things are pottering along nicely, everything is coming together, even Clio and her Mum are getting on better - until Clio finds out that her Mum is hiding something and it involves a baby. After some digging, she realises that everyone else seems to know, but her.
Just as it all starts to come together, and people are imminent to arrive Georges announces that he's off on some cruise and Clio will have to warm the canapes up herself! OMG It could be a disaster!
When the bride's' turn up everything goes so well, potential bookings and then this awful bridezilla who could ruin everything in a single second with her... mouth!
I loved the twists and turns of Brides & Bouquets, my heart was beating so fast in places I wondered if I'd survive if I didn't just turn another page. Also, I secretly wondered if Kai would make a return... can't resist a bit of eye-candy can we girls? ;-)
I'm sad that I have wait until next year (March I believe for the final installment in the trilogy) but what a treat that will be in the new year. Definitely something to look forward to.

Part
one in a feel-good romantic serial from bestselling author Rebecca
Raisin!
Clio
Winters is finally fulfilling her childhood dream of renovating the
gorgeous old Cedarwood Lodge in Evergreen. Turning it into the
perfect destination for big celebrations, weddings and parties has
brought her back home, but Cedarwood Lodge is in need of a lot of
tender loving care.
Perhaps
all the work will be the perfect distraction from the real reason she
had to leave her glamorous New York life behind.
Will
coming home be the best decision of her life… or her biggest
regret?
Cedarwood
Lodge is a delectable romance told in three parts - following Clio
Winters journey back to her hometown of Evergreen. This is Part One.
She has this delicious talent to entice you into the story so much that I find myself not only wanting to be a part of the story and it's setting, but there are moments where you stop in your day and think about the characters, pondering how they are. They become a part of your life, and that is a seriously magical talent.
Clio has returned from the bright lights of New York, and she's bought a run down lodge that has been vacant and gathering dust since her childhood. She has a lovely friend from her childhood days who is just one of those friends for life kind of guys who had his heart broken. Unaware of the scandal Clio has left behind, she has to hire a whole team to help her get the Lodge up and running for business. So, there's the project manager - Kai, who I imagine to be as deliciously handsome and muscular as I read he is, and then there is the gardener/landscaper who tackles the entire grounds single handedly. They are the main characters and sparks fly between them and makes their still hearts beat.
Clio's Mum is hiding something regarding her reservations around Cedarwood Lodge, and her Aunt knows about but won't reveal the secret. Hmmmm.
I can't not mention the beautiful couple who are the first clients of Clio's for hiring Cedarwood Lodge to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary, I sense a hint of sadness awaiting us in the future books - Rebecca, please don't make me cry too much! The whole story of this couple is unbelievably moving, and it's a shame that disaster could strike and ruin their special day.
What I will say is that Clio's friend Amory from New York, is totally spot on with her timing - ahem - especially when Clio is gazing up at the stars with a special hunk.
Oh Rebecca, you have me hooked - I'm ready and waiting for book 2! Bring it on! I can't wait to read what happens next!

A Page of Fictional Love Rating | 5/5
Bookshop owner Sarah Smith has been offered the opportunity to exchange bookshops with her new Parisian friend for 6 months! And saying yes is a no-brainer – after all, what kind of a romantic would turn down a trip to Paris…for Christmas?Even if it does mean leaving the irresistible Ridge Warner behind, Sarah’s sure she’s in for the holiday of a lifetime – complete with all the books she can read!Imagining days surrounded by books, munching on croissants, sipping café au laits and watching the snow fall on the Champs-Élysées Sarah boards the plane. But will her dream of a Parisian Happily-Ever-After come true? Or will Sarah realise that the dream of a Christmas fairytale in the city of love isn’t quite as rosy in reality…
Rebecca did it again - she made me lose myself in one of her books and dream of bookshops and Paris with romantic ideals! Now I have "Learn French", "Visit Paris", written on my bucket list - all because of this book.
I adore meeting up with characters I first got a glimpse of in The Gingerbread Cafe series, and this time I got to catch up with a girl after my own heart, Sarah from the bookshop on the corner. There are brief mentions of Lil (who is ready to pop her little baby girl out), CeeCee who makes me laugh so much, and we even catch up with Clay & Lucy whom we met in Secrets at Maple Syrup Farm. That's the magic of Rebecca's books, they are literally like a catch up with friends.
Anyway, we shall focus on Sarah who has a hunky boyfriend Ridge who she barely sees, yet she remains ever the devoted believer of true love conquers all. Sarah has a friend who owns a bookshop in Paris and when Sarah is contacted by her, is told that her boyfriend has left her and she needs to escape - to Ashford! But there is a catch, she wants to swap bookshops with Sarah for a short time!

Rebecca perfectly captures the descriptive beauty of Paris and you can't help but want to book a ticket ASAP, and lose yourself in the story of Sarah in Paris.
The characters are captivating, intriguing, and very Parisian Chic. I couldn't help but race through the book in a weekend, yet at the same time I didn't want it to end, because when I finished the book it was as if my holiday in Paris was over and that did make me sob.
I loved the romance theme that ran through the book, it wasn't hardcore romance, but sweet and dreamy which is just what you want when you pick up a book to read. It was traditional to the core, and a treat to the soul. I loved every page and can't wait to read the next installment when we get to discover more about The Little Antique Shop under the Eiffel Tower.
Today I'm taking part in Rebecca Raisin's promotional blog tour for her latest novel; Secrets at Maple Syrup Farm, and I want to start by opening up a question to you; Do You Keep Your Promises?
The reason I ask, is because this book is about just that. Keeping promises, no matter how difficult and heart breaking they may feel to keep. We meet some truly beautiful characters in this book, some we've met before in Rebecca's Gingerbread Cafe series, and some new and intriguing characters. But at one point in their lives, if you've followed their lives, you'll know that they have had to keep a promise or have been asked to keep one.
Have you ever been on an adventure? I'm taking, take a road trip to a new town, meet new people, stay there a while, and then perhaps build a life there?
One of the key characters in Secrets at Maple Syrup Farm, does just that, and we get the pleasure of going along with her on that adventure.
So, let's find out what this books all about, and why it's THE one you won't want to miss this summer.
About The Book:
Maple sugar kisses
Lucy would do anything for her mom…but she never expected to end up promising to leave her. After her mom got sick, Lucy dropped everything to take care of her, working all hours in a greasy diner just to make ends meet and spending every spare moments she had by her mom’s hospital bedside.
Now, Lucy is faced with a whole year of living by her own rules, starting by taking the first bus out of town to anywhere…
Except she didn’t expect to find her next big adventure just around the corner! Especially when on her first day in town she bumps into grumpy, but oh-so-delicious Clay amidst the maple trees. Surrounded by the magic of Ashford, Lucy has the chance to change her life forever and finally discover a life she wants to live!
Fall in love with Ashford, Connecticut in this dazzling and beautiful romance from bestselling author Rebecca Raisin.
Don't miss a single book in the Once in a Lifetime collection
What I Thought of It:
I love all of Rebecca's books, and the anticipation for this latest installment was almost unbearable. So when it landed on my kindle to pre-review, I knew what I would be spending my free-time doing. Just to be sure, I made sure it was on my Kindle App on my mobile, so I could take advantage of every spare moment I had.
I actually was rather excited when the book began to feature Lucy on a bus with CeeCee... it was like Christmas had come, and you knew it, but no one else did... It was a fabulous return to Ashford, and one that still brings a smile to my face today.
I loved Lucy, she was such a devoted daughter, and so modest with regards to her talents. She put her own dreams on hold so that she could put her mother first, but her mother had other ideas. She challenged Lucy to spend 1 year away from her, travelling, making her dreams come true.
Not without putting up a fight, Lucy heads to Ashford, and is determined to work her booty off at the Maple Syrup Farm. There's only one problem with that plan - the owner, one gorgeous hunk of a man who goes by the name of Clay is a stubborn man who thinks shes not up to the job. And like any girl, Lucy is damn well sure that shes going to prove him wrong. In the process, Lucy and Clay learn a lot about maple syrup farming ( Such as did you know you had to tap the trees... like with an actual tap? And then there's the whole talking to them and making sure you know which ones Persephone, and who's Artemis.) But that's not all they learn about, they learn about themselves, and each other. But is it enough to allow romance to blossom? Or is there just too much baggage to trust?
I adored meeting Lucy for the first time, and popping by the Gingerbread Cafe to see how their all doing. I can't wait for the next installment.

Secrets
at Maple Syrup Farm – Rebecca Raisin
The Maple Syrup Farm was, at
best, a ramshackle mess. The front gate hung off its latch, creaking
in the wind, pitching backward and forward like an invitation to
enter. In the distance you could make out the cottage. Gnarly old
vines twisted around porch posts as though they were slowly
strangling them. Cottage windows were smashed, leaving only dirty
shards of glass clinging to their perches. Mountains of junk had been
abandoned across the land for so long that grass had grown over them.
Odd sticks of wood protruded like arms in supplication. The decaying
façade of the place was somehow compelling rather than confronting.
Behind the gate, the property
spanned for miles. Long snow-dotted grass swayed like green ribbons
and grew into everything, wild and free. Even down the graveled
driveway the grass had crept over like it was intent on taking over,
burying the vestiges of ground.
I pushed the creaky gate open
and walked purposefully, convincingly, like I’d been on a million
farms before and knew what to do. As I neared the cottage music
blared from inside. I stepped onto the porch. It was rotted in
places, worm-wooded. I covered my ears against the noise as I dodged
holes and hoped to God I made it inside without tumbling into trouble
in my boots.
Whoever was inside the small
cottage was belting out lyrics to “Pony” by Ginuwine like he was
the only person in the world. Clay? I couldn’t really see an old
farmer type listening to such provocative music, but it took all
kinds to make a world, as my mom was keen on saying.
With a quick rap on the door,
I set my shoulders, pulled my coat tighter and waited. No answer.
There was no way he’d hear me with the volume up so high. With a
shrug, I opened the front door, and stuck my head inside.
My mouth hung open at the
sight before me. Clay was not old. Not weathered. Not wearing
overalls.
He stood all six foot
something of him, on the top rung of a stepladder, wearing only tight
denim jeans, holding a drill. His broad shoulders moved to the beat
of the music, his biceps flexing in time. As he turned and leaned I
caught sight of his sculpted abs, the grooves and valleys of them,
the color of his skin, tanned somehow in wintertime. He was the
epitome of the perfect male model. I imagined him nude, and wanted to
paint him in explicit detail because it would make such a stunning
portrait.
The tight denim jeans accented
his butt, and he thrust his hips to the rhythm of the song. That kind
of taut, strong body would be a joy to paint. Just watching him made
me uncomfortably warm. I had been wanting to capture a man on canvas,
their intense lines and lengths, especially one as chiseled as this.
He flicked his dark blond hair
back, and turned suddenly, one hand grasping the top rung of the
ladder. When he caught sight of me the singing and, sadly, the
thrusting stopped abruptly.
I walked to the stereo to turn
the music down, before saying, “Hi, nice drill you have there.”
Nice drill you have there? I promptly closed my mouth, and
hoped my brain would catch up with my voice. In my effort to come
across convincing, like I knew what a drill was, I sounded like I was
flirting. Or just plain stupid. “What I meant was—”
His expression darkened and he
spoke over the top of me. “You lost?”
I tilted my head, confused at
the hostility in his voice. “No.” I appraised him—a hot guy
with a bad attitude. I’d been expecting to see a middle-aged guy
wearing overalls, not someone half-dressed, and mesmerizing
from a painting point of view. The fierceness in his eyes—would I
capture it?
He jumped down from the
ladder, a fine sheen of sweat glistening on his abs. From a sofa
covered with plastic, he snatched up a crumpled tank top and pulled
it over his head.
“No need to get dressed on
my account.” I resisted the urge to clap a hand over mouth. “What
I mean is, just be as you were…” The words were coming out wrong,
in my effort to be someone I was not.
I blushed.
He scowled.
“Can I help you?” He let
the drill drop, the cord slipping slowly through his fingers—he
didn’t take his eyes off me, before it hit the ground with a clunk.
For some reason the gesture seemed highly erotic. But the steely
glint in his eyes told a different story.
Thoughts of traipsing back
down the driveway, jobless, flashed through my mind. “I’m here
about the job.” I raised my chin.
His face cracked into a
cynical smile. He snatched a rag from the coffee table and wiped his
brow, all the while chuckling to himself. I held his stare, while he
gave me a once-over. His eyes were a mesmerizing, deep, dark brown,
almost fathomless. I should have changed my outfit before I set off.
He couldn’t take me seriously for the job, looking like some kind
of bohemian.
“A job?” His mouth
twisted. “I don’t think so.” His gaze traveled the length of my
body once more and I tried hard not to squirm.
“And why not?” I asked,
remembering Becca’s word of warning. Do not take no for an
answer.
He sneered. “Do you even
know what the job is?”
“Farming, or a farmer, or a
farmer’s assistant. Who cares about the title? All you need to know
is, I am more than capable of…farming.” Way to go, Lucy, I
silently berated myself. Say farmer one more time. He had me on edge
with his cool stare. I hoped the desperation wasn’t evident in my
voice.
“Who sent you here?”
I tried to hide my smile at
his phrasing—it was almost like a line out of a mafia movie. Was
this guy for real? “Your cousin Becca. She said you can’t find
anyone else.” And now I see why. If I wasn’t so desperate
for a job I would have told him exactly what I thought of him and
breezed out. But there was also a stubborn side of me that wanted to
show him he was wrong about me. I could…farm, as well as anyone
else.
He raised an eyebrow. “You
think I can’t find anyone?”
“I don’t see people lining
up to work for you.” He blanched. If it was a tug of war, I’d
just retrieved a bit of the rope. “But I am perfectly able to do
the work.”
“Is that so?”
“Sure is.” I pursed my
lips.
He took two steps toward me
and stood so close I could feel his breath on my face. My pulse
quickened—for one second I thought he was going to kiss me. He
said, “You think you can handle it?”
Many of you will realise that I've been somewhat absent from my blog. I've not had the time or energy to blog or even read for that matter as I've got a lot going on in my personal life at the moment. However I feel that it may be beneficial if not a tad therapeutic for me pick up my books again and read, and then share with you on my blog.
So, for the first time in over a month, this week I finally picked up a book. It's still raw and painful for me to pick up a book, read and escape. It sometimes makes me feel guilty for 'carrying on' as normal, as if nothing matters, as if the pain isn't there. But believe me it is. My heart is still sore, raw and battered.
Back to the books; I've managed to read a couple of books and buy a few more, and also receive a few more from NetGalley from publishers (THANK YOU!!)
So here's what I've read this week or so;
The first one I read, that has honestly been a savior to me was Ali McNamara's "The Little Flower Shop by the Sea" which I will be sharing my review with you all towards the end of the week as we approach publication date.
Secondly, I finished just this morning Rebecca Raisin's "Secrets at Maple Syrup Farm" which I will be sharing my thoughts of on 28th July as part of the blog tour (details and dates are in the sidebar menu to your right ----->>> )
Next up are the books I've recently been out and spent my money on;
So as you can see, I got my hands on Milly Johnson's new book "Afternoon at the Sunflower Cafe" and I can't wait to find time to sit down and devour each page. I also picked up a promo copy of Hello's Fashion Magazine which came with a complementary copy of Lindsey Kelk's About a Girl which i'm reading at the moment. I'm also reading Jill Shalvis' At Last which I received from the publishers a while ago. It's book 5 in the Lucky Harbour Series, but book 2 of the trilogy if that makes sense...there are 4 sets of 3 trilogies.. :-/
