“You know that old saying If you can eat, you can cook? I truly believe that. I also believe that if you can imagine, you can create. That’s what making your own rules in the kitchen is about.
That’s what this book is about. It’s about you. It’s about the food you eat. It’s about what you choose to put in your body on any given day. It’s about how easy it is to have a life in the kitchen that doesn’t take over your life elsewhere. It’s also about having fun. So, are you in or are you out?”

In Make Your Own Rules Cookbook, Strala Yoga founder, fashion designer, and entrepreneur Tara Stiles shows you how to have fun making your own rules in the kitchen. You’ll begin by breaking free of the labels, judgements, restrictions, and stresses of having to eat a certain way—letting go of the binge-and-purge, punishment-and-reward, diet-and-fail cycles. Learning to listen to what your body really wants, and make intuitive choices, you will find balance and harmony and go on to discover the massively bountiful buffet before you—an endless array of tastes and textures from all across the world!
Tara prides herself on making healthy living easy and effortless, and this cookbook holds the same philosophy. She gently guides you through every step of the Make Your Own Rules process, from:
  • preparing yourself for a major shift in your mind-set
  • stocking a healthy, green kitchen
  • choosing handy kitchen tools and appliances
  • scheduling time for grocery shopping and cooking into your busy lifestyle
  • and more!
Tara also gives you the freedom to play in the kitchen, get creative, experiment with recipes, and make them your own. With more than 100 mouthwatering recipes inspired by her international travels, her Midwestern roots, and her daily life in NYC, Make Your Own Rules Cookbook offers up a generous helping of plant-powered juices, smoothies, salads, main dishes, and desserts designed to leave you feeling radiant, energized, and satisfied.
Ditch the takeout menus, let your imagination run wild, and get your hands dirty in the kitchen!

I am a huge fan of Tara’s books and way of life. I loved her Make Your Own Rules Diet book which is as far from our perception of ‘diets’ as it can be, and I fundamentally believe that if teenagers were given this book by Tara they would been more equipped with facing societies pressures upon image, weight, diet, food, health and happiness.
Now, as a Twirty-Something, I am so happy that Tara’s back with a fabulous cook book. The fundamental teaching in this book is to use your intuition and feelings to eat what you feel like eating. Now that doesn’t give us a free pass to take-away heaven which most of us busy professionals can be tempted by. What it does mean is that we are being shown how to take more of a relaxed yet controlled approach to cooking more healthy, nutrient full and energy packed foods that will nourish us and sustain us. Many of us are eating the wrong foods in that they are wrong for our body and what we need. We focus more of quickly beating that slump by having those sugar rush drinks and chocolates, when we could eat a fibre packed pumpkin seed bar that will keep our energy and blood sugar levels more stable thus enabling us to keep going for longer.
A favourite part of Tara’s book for me is the “Love Sauce” recipe. It’s so adorable and immediately brought a smile to my face. In fact i’m thinking of getting a copy of this framed in my kitchen to remind me to always cook with the Love Sauce.
The recipes are easy and affordable. You can begin a more healthy way of eating with The Classic Dream which involves; 1 banana, 1 handful of spinach and 1 cup of almond milk – blended and you’re ready to go with a healthy, nutritious beverage. There’s also a fab recipe for a cold busting beverage – I wish I’d seen this before my recent period of illness, I may just have been able to avoid being prescribed a course of anti-biotics.
I think this book would be suited to busy young women who want to master their kitchen, cook up some really healthy balanced meals, and maybe even surprise friends and family. It would also suit any busy professional who has through a less balanced work-life who aches for a more balanced, less stressful life. Try it and let me know what you think.
I can’t wait to try out some of the recipes in this book, and see how easily they fit into my life. I’m off to stock up on the ingredients for the chocolate mousse, and the ginger cookies…. oh and the coconut chocolate mint ice cream…
